- Intrastromal Corneal Ring Segments were introduced in 1987 for correction of myopia. Since then, their use has faded for various reasons including limitaitons on the amount of myoipc correcton produced, induced astigmatism, as well as slow post-implantation visual recovery.

Intacs segments have 8.0 mm external diameter and 6.8 mm internal diameter with varied thickness (0.21-0.45 mm, with 0.05-mm increments).
